About & help

Overview

Know Between is a free-to-use website that enables you to connect with trusted experts in your interest areas, and be recognised and ranked alongside peers in your areas of expertise.

You can grow your knowledge by asking questions. You can grow your connections and credibility by answering questions, or by knowing people who can. It's not just what you know but who you know that can gain you expertise in a particular area.

Current 'Beta' release

Know Between are currently testing a public beta release. Know Between becomes more powerful as you contribute to the data. We encourage you to:

  • Invite people you know personally to join as new connections
  • Add topics (i.e. your areas of interest)
  • Ask questions
  • Answer questions
  • Read, rate and respond to answers to your questions
  • Email your feedback to info@knowbetween.com.

Want to take a more formal role in testing or development of Know Between? We're looking for people to be part of the team.

Finding answers

If you're looking for an answer, try searching for existing answers first. The search is available on every page. Enter as many words or parts of words that are likely to be in the question, answer or related topic. If nothing relevant shows up, try additional search terms or ask a new question. You need to be logged in to ask a question.

Inviting new connections

You can gain additional credibility by growing your network of connections. Just enter one or more email addresses in the Invite new connections form. You must login and click on "My home" to access this feature.

Adding topics

Add any topics you're interested in. You can only gain credibility in a topic if you've added it! As you type, existing matching topics in our database will display as an option. Click on the relevant topic or use the arrow keys to select. You can add multiple topics at the same time, just separate each with a comma. You must login and click on "My home" to access this feature.

Asking questions

Enter your question and 'tag' to relevant topics. Every topic must be grouped under an existing category. You need to be logged in to use this feature. There are 3 options for dispatching a question:

  • Broadcast - Make the question available to everyone who wants to see it
  • Send to connections - Deliver to people you know directly who share one or more of the tagged topics. Those ranked higher than you are highlighted.
  • Send to 1-away connections - Deliver to relevant people who a 1-away (e.g. friends of friends).

Answering questions

Enter your response to any question, even if it's resolved. You may insert links to external sites here, just ensure you use the full URL (e.g. 'http://...'). You need to be logged in to use this feature.

Rating and responding to answers to your questions

Enter your response to any answers. You may rate answers that others have given, and can see their current credibility in the relevant topics. Rating will affect the credibility of respondents and give you the opportunity to connect directly with them. You need to be logged in to use this feature.

Accepting invitations

You can see who has invited you as a connection on the "My home" page once logged in. You may accept or decline invites as required.

Notifications and other tools

You don't have to log in to Know Between to see relevant recent activity. You can get email notifications, access RSS feeds and get Twitter updates. You can even view and share your expertise on Facebook. Go to "My preferences" to update your account.
